2020 Stir-Ups Valley County
To prepare an appealing, nutritious meal that can be prepared easily by using common ingredients available in many homes. Meal should be prepared using food safe techniques and reflect creative use of ingredients.
Individuals or teams of two
Meal preparation and cleanup: 60 minutes Presentation: 15 minutes
- Provided Ingredients: County contest - members are to provide the ingredients used in your dish.
- Pantry Ingredients: County contest - members are to provide their own pantry ingredients.
- Mystery Ingredient: Ingredient provided by contestant to augment other ingredients.
Contestant must use at least one mystery ingredient and may use up to three.
- Spices/herbs: Contestants may provide their own spices/herbs as needed. Spices/herbs (fresh or dried) do not count as a mystery ingredient.
Contestants will prepare soup utilizing five of the listed main ingredients. They must use at least one mystery ingredient and up to three. The soup should be visually appealing, nutritious and show creativity. Contestants should use effective work habits and sanitary food preparation practices. Following the preparation of the soup the contestant(s) will present an oral presentation to judges. Oral presentation: should address selection of the soup; preparation process; nutritional value of the soup; potential alteration; overall learning.
Please bring all ingredients and cooking utensils along with two (2) copies of the recipe used.

Prepare a Soup utilizing five of the listed main ingredients:
Prepare a soup utilizing at least five of the following main ingredients:
· Brown Rice
· Coconut Milk
Staple items such as:
· Vegetable oil
· Spray oil
· Beef or chicken stock
· Canned tomatoes
· Baking soda
· Baking powder
Item to augment other ingredients – must use at least one mystery ingredient and may use up to three.
Contestants may provide their own spices as needed. Spices do not count as a mystery ingredient.
