BEEF, SHEEP, SWINE, HORSE, POULTRY, RABBIT AND GOATS

  1. Open to all boys and girls in Valley County whom are currently enrolled in 4-H or FFA and have met the requirements to exhibit livestock at the fair.
  2. Only one market animal per youth, per livestock species can be sold. (exception: Poultry – refer to Poultry meat classes section page 38.)  EXAMPLE: A 4-H member that also belongs to FFA has two swine exhibited in both 4-H and FFA., they must decide to sell only one of the swine at the sale.  They then could also sell one beef and one sheep.
  3. A "brand inspection slip" must be presented to the beef superintendent along with $2.00 ($1.00 Brand Inspection Fee, $1.00 Beef Council Fee), when the market beef is weighed in.
  4.  All sale animals must have complied with Valley County 4-H scheduled tag-in/weigh-in dates, if applicable, and/or any requirements specific to each species.
  5. 4-H members selling livestock will be billed for the picture and “thank you” to buyer, federal grader cost, advertising cost, trucking, etc. or have the amount taken out of their sale check.
  6. If members wish to sell their second market animal, they must do so on their own. (Suggest a packing plant on grade and yield, to a private party or through the auction ring such as the Glasgow Stockyards, Inc).
  7. The auction is supported by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture Committee.
  8. Terms of the sale are cash. Livestock buyers must pay for their animal to the clerks after purchasing or IMMEDIATELY following the sale. Checks are to be made out to VALLEY COUNTY 4-H & FFA  LIVESTOCK SALE.
  9. Beef will be harvested and entered in the Montana Steer of Merit competition sponsored by the MT Stockgrower’s.
  10. The sheep and swine will also be harvested and measured for carcass data.
  11. The animals official sale weight will be the weight registered on Entry Day.
  12. All youth selling animals in the Valley County 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale shall have their animals in show condition one half hour before the sale for viewing by prospective buyers.
  13. White Ribbon animals can not be sold at the Valley County 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale.  Selling of a white ribbon animal is the exhibitor’s responsibility.
  14. All Sale livestock must remain in the barns until the Sale Clerk transactions are completed and all brand enforcement paper work is done. Do not load any sale livestock until you are given the permission by your superintendents to do so.  Any 4-H/FFA livestock sale animal leaving the fairgrounds without department superintendent permission, will be fined 10% of gross sale proceeds which will be deducted from members livestock sale check.
  15. Resale animals will be sold at the end of the sale.
  16. A MARKET ANIMAL POST FAIR AGREEMENT FORM must be completed for any market animal sold at the Valley County 4-H & FFA Livestock Sale which is not going directly to harvest following the sale. The form must be signed by the buyer, seller, seller’s parent or guardian and the department superintendent prior to animal leaving the fair grounds.
  17. All 4-H/FFA members must be current on Animal Quality Assurance Training in their age division.
