GUIDELINES FOR JUDGING 4-H HERDSMAN AWARDS

There will be two plaques awarded in beef, horse, sheep, swine, and poultry/rabbit.
                   Top Individual Herdsman and Top 4-H Club**

T0 QUALIFY FOR HERDSMAN AWARDS A 4-H MEMBER WILL - -

  1. Feed and water animal regularly. Check on animal periodically.
  2. Clean and bed stall, pen or area. Police immediate area.
  3. Have knowledge of animals, age (birth date) breeding, weight and etc. as needed for registration or judging.
  4. Grooming and preparation of animals for judging or showing.
  5. Dress in proper attire when showing animals.
  6. Show respect - consideration - proper attitude and cooperation toward ALL animals, members, equipment, supplies and facilities as well as judges and spectators.
  7. Fill out and properly display livestock stall cards.
  8. When exercising or taking your animal in and out of the building, clean up after them.
  9. Display a banner in center of your club entries in each building.


Only 4-H members shall care for 4-H livestock, unless with good reason (such as the health and welfare of the exhibitor and/or animal), other arrangements are made with the superintendent in charge.  Only     4-H club members shall hold animals in the show ring.  All livestock exhibits shall be shown and brought before the judge by the boy or girl owning the exhibit, unless excused by the superintendent or county agent.

A revolving First Place CLUB HERDSMAN Plaque will be presented in Beef, Horse, Sheep, Swine, and Poultry/Rabbit by the following sponsors:

HORSE - -   TIHISTA CONSTRUCTION - NASHUA

SHEEP - -   DONOVAN COLUMBIA

SWINE - -   MESA FARMS INC, NASHUA

POULTRY/RABBIT – Valley County 4-H Livestock Committee

**4-H Clubs receiving the Herdsman Plaques are requested to leave them on the awards table after pictures are taken.  The 4-H Livestock committee will pay for the engraving.

POULTRY and RABBITS -
BS Central will sponsor a plaque award for the top individual poultry/rabbit herdsman.
